It has been a while since I have received any fridge pics, but here are some from a friend. She actually is doing a great job telling her friends and family about this crazy refrigerator gallery. The top refrigerator belongs to her kids. The bottom one is hers. Click on them to see them in more detail, that way you can see the grandkids. Which by the way seems to be the common trend in the pictures on the fridge. Thanks Karen for the pictures. So what about your fridge, what story does it tell about you? Email me a pic of yours to add to the collection.

KFC
Check out the commercial by KFC Their goal is to compete with technologies such as Tivo that allow users to skip commercials. In this commercial KFC has added a secret code to one frame of the video. The secret code can be viewed by viewing the commercial frame by frame. Go to the website and enter the code for a coupon for a free chicken sandwich. Is it worth all the work for a free chicken sandwich? I don’t know but it got my attention? Will I actually go get the chicken sandwich, We’ll see….

Video Podcasting 101

February 22nd, 2006

Video Podcasting Session
After much delay the video podcast for the lockwagon/bandjaw episode is nearly complete. Until we firm up a host site there is only a small clip of the video.

Unfortunately there is not a clear cut way to do video podcasting. Here are a few basic steps in order to do a basic video podcast if you are interested.

1. Record video and audio either onto tape or directly into your computer via firewire

2. Convert your video file into a .mp4 file that has a resolution of 320×240 using a program similiar to final cut or quicktime. Both of these have an export to ipod feature which makes this step very easy, although converting the file does take a while.

3. Find a place to host your video file. I first tried www.ourmedia.org which offers free hosting for all your files up to 50MB. Unfortunately the site seems to have many glitches. I decided to use a trial version of .mac which is around $100 a year for the full supported version.

4. Next on your website or blogsite or whatever create a link to your file.

5. Next make sure your blogsite has an rss feed. Check out feedburner if not.

6. Publish your video podcast to iTunes Podcast Directory for a larger audience by placing your rss feed link in the blank.

Click here for the iTunes direct feed.

Hope this helps anyone who may be journeying into the area of video podcasting.

Olympic Sized Storytelling

Olympic Sized Storytelling
Coca-Cola has sent 6 student journalists from all around the world to Torino. The idea allows the students to share firsthand stories that would never otherwise be told. The reports give a more realistic view of what the olympics are like for a typical spectator. The blog site offers pictures from the students as well.

These students do a great job at treading through all the political nonsense of the reporting and give you a great sense of what it is really like to be there in Torino.

Also kudos to Coca-Cola for see the power of digital storytelling. Democritization in reporting at its best. Take a look it is called Torino Conversations.

The Power of Digital Storytelling

February 3rd, 2006

I found an article in Business Week Online that talked about the power of digital storytelling and how large companies are using it to their advantage. My favorite story is the one below.

COCA-COLA
Solicits stories they not only post on the Web, but at Coke’s digital storytelling exhibit in the Atlanta headquarters. Example: Indiana housewife Iris Bell’s tale of her dad’s lucky Coke bottle, which traveled with him through World War II to Burma, back home to America, and survived a house fire. Says Iris: ”The bottle was daddy’s good-luck charm.”
