Last week I traveled to Knoxville for a shoot with a client at HP Video where they have a studio with a 80′ x 80′ main stage with a green screen cyc. We were shooting for a new video that will feature the talent walking out on top of the clients website. Thanks to Danny at HP for the lighting tips on the shoot.

Here is a sample of what we are working on from the shoot. Thanks to Lee for all the great work on the keying.

Building a foundation for disruption

April 25th, 2007

In the world of online video the biggest shortcoming has always been bandwidth. Even as the tv paradigm shift is well underway the biggest limitations have been poor video quality and long buffering times.

Recently researchers at the University of Tokyo broke internet speed records allowing them to send a high-quality version of the movie “The Matrix” over the internet in a few seconds rather than half a minute over the current Internet2 and two days over a typical home broadband line.

With advancements like this I wonder how fast the big networks can change their rusty gears. The foundation for disruption is being built one block at a time, but with this type of internet speed whole walls will be built within days.

Variety is the spice of the freelancing life

April 23rd, 2007

During the productions over the last few weeks I have become well educated on proper excercise techniques for elementary school children, the ethics of a major construction company in the south, the humor of David Spade, the goals of a hopeful church in the midst of a capital campaign, Danny Glover’s interest in the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, and how a local investment company is investing in the moral and ethical practices of major corporations.

So variety it is, in this world of freelancing, and I love it. It works out great for someone who has an attention span similiar to that of a fruit-fly like myself. I am never bored.

Here is the latest completed production.

Here are some pics from a shoot at Tipton Haynes with American Values Investments. Tipton Haynes is a perfect setting for anything that needs the historical civil war era look. Thanks to Penny McLaughlin for letting us shoot at this great location.
