Left in the Dark with Silverlight

August 16th, 2007

After hearing a lot about Microsoft’s new embedded video player and after reading my friend Jose’s post about it I thought I would finally give it shot.

My first experience was less than enlightening. The first page I went to to check it out was MLB. Here are list of what I see as some shortcomings during my first dip into the so called light.

1. One more stinkin’ plugin that I have to install.
2. I have to restart my browser, closing the page that I was wanting to see the video on in the first place. Then going back and navigating to the page one more time battling ADD and trying to remember where I was at in the first place.
3. Then wait 30 seconds while the video appears to load.
4. Haa…Only a teaser when 60 seconds later an error message pops up saying blah, blah, blah (I translated to: You just wasted your time with this.)

Good luck Microsoft. User adoption with this type of experience is going to take awhile. My fear as a media developer is that I will be forced to use Silverlight in the future. Granted I have not studied up on all the technical promises of Silverlight, but I have less desire after this. For now I will stick with Flash. Just a thought… If they merge will it be called Flashlight.

Amazon.com aStore

August 13th, 2007

Ok, so I know this nothing new for a lot of the geeks out there, but I finally made an Amazon astore. This will be a place where I will list helpful books as well as some of the equipment that I use. I will be keeping it updated with the latest toys that I have in the Fridge.

Baker Publishing Photo Shoot

August 8th, 2007

Here are a couple shots from the photo shoot back in July in CO with Baker Publishing. These will be used on Karen Linamen’s new web site and on the cover of here new book, which I don’t think I am allowed to say the name of right now… sorry. Karen put up with a lot considering we were shooting video and photography the whole entire day. I think we ended up putting in about a 18 hour day for the shoot. My favorite is of Karen flipping the bread for the grill cheese sandwich, which by the way don’t put hot grilled cheese sandwiches on styrofoam plates friends. It ends up looking like melted marshmellow but trust me it doesn’t taste like it.
